Kia ora, my name is Hanneke. I'm Pākeha with my ancestors coming from Scottland and England.
I grew up in the shelter of the Kakanui hills and in the great shade of Aoraki, and the rushing waters of Waitaki. I'm from Oamaru, in the South Island. My family was a bit nomadic and adventurous so I lived some years in Pakistan, England and the Democratic Republic of Congo as well.
My husband Jack Leason is from Ōtaki - our children are Francis, Linnea and Albert.
I studied at the University of Otago between 2010 -2017. Following this I moved to Wellington to work as a junior doctor in the main hospital as well as Kenepuru and the Hospice. I started part-time at Otaki Medical Centre in 2020, and started my journey with Te Reo Māori in these years and especially through the Heke Reo at Te Whare Wānanga o Raukawa in 2022.
My passion is healthy equity and finding ways to improve care. I love working with kids, women's health, and doing mental wellbeing work; I try to take a holistic picture of things where I can. I hope to better resource myself in these areas over time to enrich our Ōtaki Community.
